Official Tournament Rules
4-Person Ambrose – Stableford Scoring
Format Overview:
- Team event: 4 players per team
- Format: Ambrose Stableford
- 36 teams per round, 2 teams per tee (shotgun start)
Eligibility:
- All players must have a current NZ Golf membership
- All players must hold an official Golf NZ handicap index
- Maximum individual handicap: 24
- Each team must nominate a dedicated team captain
Handicap Calculation:
- Add all four individual handicaps together
- Divide the total by 8 to determine the team handicap
- Example: 24 + 16 + 8 + 8 = 56
- 56 ÷ 8 = 7 (team handicap applied)
Rules of Play:
- Ambrose format: All players tee off, the team selects the best ball, and all players play their next shot from that position. Repeat until the ball is holed.
- Each player’s tee shot must be used at least 3 times during the round
- Men play from the back tees; ladies play from the forward/women’s tees
- Clean and place (preferred lies) is in effect through the green — consistent with standard Ambrose conditions
- Players must clearly mark their golf balls
- Play according to the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A and NZ Golf, along with any local rules provided by the host course
Scoring:
Stableford scoring system will be used, based on the team’s net score on each hole using the calculated team handicap
